A sister topic to Marketplace Ministry is the Theology of Work, the idea that the way you do your work matters to God and that your work is from God.

Some of the main verses and their principles include:

  • Colossians 3:23 Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters

Principle: You do your work for the Lord

  • Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Principle: Our work comes from God

  • Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Principle: We need to pray with the Holy Spirit about our work

  • Duet: 5:13-14 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do.

Principle: We need to rest from our work.
